500 Miles with Scrap it With a Song

Hi everyone! Scrap it With a Song has some new challenges this month. One of the challenges is the song "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers. I can't stop singing this song!

I decided to use another one of my favorite photos from the March For Babies walk I participated in earlier this year.

 

I used some of my Authentique scraps that I had. That's my favorite part about Smash books - I can use all those pretty little scraps that I can't bear to throw away! Going My Own Way...to Scrap it with a Song!

This week I am off to cheer camp! As you read this, I am probably in the hot sun listening to hundreds of teenage girls cheer their hearts out. Oh boy!

My BFF and I met as cheerleaders 15 years ago. Now we are back as coaches!

Now that I am on the Scrap it with a Song Design Team, I will be participating in two challenges a month. The first challenge for this month is the Fleetwood Mac classic, "Go Your Own Way."

I very rarely scrap pictures of myself but thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. I took out my SMASH book and got busy!

SMASHing Right Along

Since the last time I blogged about my first discovery of Smash books, I have become quite the addict. I love my Smash books. My collection went from one book to five in a matter of a month. I even got my BFF hooked! What I love most about it is that it is so personal. I use mine more like a journal than a scrapbook. I find myself journaling a lot more than I do on layouts (shame on me, I know). For some reason, whenever I work in my Smash book, I picture great-great-great-great grandkids reading it and really getting to know what I was all about.

I've been to two crops this month and I took my Smash book to both. I have all of my supplies in one tote which makes it super easy to take with me. I also recently discovered Instagram which is perfect for Smashing.

Getting SMASHy

When I first heard about Smash books, I didn't understand their purpose. Weren't they just like a mini-scrapbook? I chalked it up to just another scrapbook company trying to convince me that I needed this new line of products.

Every time I went to Michaels, I passed the Smash and all of their pretty embellishments. Once in awhile I would pick something up and look at it but I always put it back. I certainly did not need a new project.

Then one day I came across this video and it just clicked.

And suddenly I had to have it. It was just like this journal that I had to submit once a week in my English class in high school. It was by far my favorite assignment and I even continued the assignment once the school year was over. Except now I had pretty books to use!

So I started buying things. Every time I got a new coupon, I bought something new until I had all of the pieces that I like. I even broke down and bought two books. And then it all sat there. Until one night my BFF bought one and we sat down and Smashed together.

Being the ultra-organized person that I am, I was a bit overwhelmed by the lack of rules and structure to it all. It wasn't until I figured out what these books meant to me that I could finally begin. I've decided that I will use my books for all of those momentos that don't fit or work in a standard layout. My first "Smash" is of a wedding that my husband and I attended that was very special to us.

I haven't Smashed since but I have some ideas rolling around in my head and I will share what I come up with over the next few months.
