The Bride and Groom Layout

Good morning scrappers!

Today is the last challenge of the summer over at The Memory Nest. I have really enjoyed being on the summer design team. I have met some lovely ladies and we've had some fun scrappy conversations. Here is my last layout as part of the summer design team.

And here is the challenge:

As you can see, I stayed pretty true to the sketch. This was a fun layout to create because I felt free to rummage through my stash and pick papers from whatever collection. I went through and dug out everything that was in the white/ivory family. I was a little nervous about doing a monochromatic layout but once I got started it came together.

Check out this challenge on The Memory Nest and don't forget to take advantage of the $5 summer shipping in the store. Thanks for reading!

Suit and Tie Wedding Layout

Howdy!

This month at Scrap it With a Song the design team was asked to play DJ and pick the challenge songs. I'm up first with a song by two of my favorite artists - Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z!

When I was asked to choose a song, I immediately thought of Suit and Tie because not only is it a great song (and JT is pretty easy on the eyes) but the title alone has so many scrappy possibilities! This Vintage Bliss collection by Simple Stories is my favorite right now. The color palette is right up my alley.

I got this lovely PageMaps sketch from The Memory Nest. I tried out for their Summer Design Team. Got my fingers crossed!

Check out Scrap it With a Song to play along with this challenge and see what the Design Team has in store for the remainder of the month!

For Better or Worse Wedding Layout

Howdy!

Today I have a layout I created using sketch #112 from the latest Sketches in Thyme challenge. This sketch was a two-pager. I must admit, I had some trouble with this. I have gotten so accustomed to doing one page layouts that this was a challenge for me!

Paper: Echo Park "Sweet Day"

I used pictures from a wedding that I was in last month. These are some of the pictures from the professional photographers. This sketch was perfect for fitting in lots of these beautiful shots in front of the historic Whittier Post Office.

Check out Sketches in Thyme for this and many other great sketches!

A Few of my Favorite Friends Layout

Good morning scrappers!

Today is my very first reveal with Sketches in Thyme and I had so much fun with our first sketch!

And here is my take on this sketch:

These pictures were taken at a wedding last month where I was the Matron of Honor and my handsome husband was a groomsman. This paper collection is by Simple Stories and it is called Vintage Bliss. And it is ABSOLUTELY my new favorite paper collection. It is STUNNING in real life. The colors blend so beautifully. I definitely see myself hoarding some of this paper in the near future. I was also stoked about using my new Amy Tangerine date stamp.

To see what the other design team members did with this sketch or to give it a try yourself, please visit the Sketches in Thyme blog. Entries can be submitted all month long.

Prince, a Bridal Shower Tea Party, and a Layout all in One!

Happy Saturday! Believe it or not, the title of this post will actually make sense at some point.

Today is the first weekend in March which means it's a new month of challenges over at Scrap it With a Song. This month we took the colors of the rainbow as a part of St. Patrick's Day as our inspiration. First up is the song "Purple Rain" by Prince!

I recently posted these tea party invitations I created for a bridal shower I was hosting. The shower was a few weeks ago now and the bride wore this beautiful, purple ruffly dress which I figured would be perfect for this week's song.

The amazing paper is from the Graphic 45 Secret Garden collection and the chipboard shapes are the Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic collection. The crocheted doily was handmade by my dear friend Ruby. I told her she needs to open up shop! Even though I didn't link up in time, I used sketch # 103 by Sketches in Thyme.

Here are a few pictures from that day. The party had to be moved inside due to the rain but I think it worked out for the best. The day was filled with pretty flowers, mismatched china, lace, and or course, tea!

Thanks for reading! See I told you Prince and a tea party together in one post would make sense!

Tea Time! Tea Party Bridal Shower Invitations

Recently I was asked to be the matron of honor in my good friend's wedding and I enthusiastically said yes! One of my duties of course is to host a bridal shower. My friend and I have always talked about throwing a tea party so this was the perfect opportunity to do so!

After hours (and I mean hours) of scouring Pinterest, I had a pretty solid idea of how I wanted this party to be. My first task was to create the invitations. Luckily, I had recently received some products from CutCardStock. I used their A7 envelopes and inserts. I was able to easily run them through my printer and the quality looked great.

I created a pocket using kraft cardstock and cut the notch with a circle punch. I wrapped a doily around the edges and added a thin, pink ribbon. Once I had printed the information on the insert, I mounted it onto matching pink cardstock and cut it into a large tag. I added a small tag with the RSVP information, making it look like a tea bag. As an extra touch, I stamped and embossed a tea pot on the outside of the envelope. I was also able to print the address information on the front of the envelope.

The bridal shower is in one week and I am super excited! Can't wait to share some pictures!

Mellow Yellow

Have you ever had a project that was so daunting that you put it off...and put it off again? That is how I have felt about my wedding scrapbook. I am obviously an avid scrapbooker so people assume I would have finished months ago but I am just so intimated by it that for the last ten months all I had done was buy the paper! I mean how do you go about picking pictures when you have over 800 images and you love 110% of them! So a few weeks ago, with the help of my friend Michelle, I FINALLY got started on a layout. I started with a sketch by Becky Fleck and some beautiful paper I bought by the ton by Pebbles.

I really like this paper because the black and white is so elegant and the yellow just gives it the right pop of color. And a special thank you to Michelle for letting me raid her letter stickers and giving me the idea for making a "ring!"

Now let's hope it doesn't take me another 10 months to make a second layout! I'm entering this in a contest over at Scrap It With a Song which is a really fun blog that posts challenges that are inspired by songs. This week's challenge is to create a project inspired by Coldplay's "Yellow." I'm also entering it over at ScrapFIT's Salt and Pepper Workout!

I'm off to finish the last book in The Hunger Games trilogy. I can't put it down!

Made with Love

I am an incredibly indecisive person. So when it came to planning my wedding I kind of drove myself crazy. It was hard for me to grasp that this would be the only time I would be choosing a dress or flowers or a location. I didn't want to make any bad choices.

When it came time to choose my dress I was almost in agony. By my wedding day I had gone through THREE (you read that correctly) wedding dresses. As in I paid for and picked up three different dresses. When I put on the third (and last) dress almost exactly one month before my wedding (yes, seriously) I knew it was made for me.

When it came to my veil I was surprisingly decisive. Since I was a little girl I knew that I wanted my mom to make it. When I did price a couple I had serious sticker shock and it solidified my decision. However, my mom and I were at serious odds. I pictured myself in a Mantilla style veil with beautiful alencon lace. My mom was convinced that style wouldn't fit the style of my dress. So she made two. Her veil and my veil.

I was a two veil bride.

In the end we both decided that my design did in fact work. The fact that on my wedding day I had a piece of my mom with me was very heartwarming and something that I will forever treasure. When I found this sewing themed paper by My Little Shoebox I knew I had to have it. I've been so focused on creating classes and completing challenges that I haven't really scrapped anything for myself. At a crop last week I was determined to finish something that would be just for me.

My Scrappy Wedding

When my lovely fiance and I reached the 5 month mark until the wedding, we had to do some serious adjustments to our budget. I knew some things were going to have to change. No more red trolley for us and the wedding party. See you later 5-tier fondant wedding cake and Maggie Sottero gown. Gone were the beautiful letterpress invitations and programs. But I wasn't discouraged. I was still determined to have the wedding of my, ahem, our dreams. So I started to get creative.

First up - the invitations!

I found this wedding kit at Target on clearance but it was the wrong colors and a little bit boring. So I took out my paper trimmer and gems and went to town!

Found some pretty inner envelopes at Paper Source (on sale, thank you very much!).

Created an extra card for directions, some labels with our monogram for the inner envelope, embossed our custom-made return address stamp (Martha Stewart would be so proud!) and before I knew it I had an invitation suite!

It was definitely a labor of love. Thank God for my awesome MOH, MOB, and Mister to Be!

Here are some other things I made:

Programs (Got to use my embossing gun again!)

Reserved seating signs (and I made the pomanders =))

Escort Cards

Candy Buffet signs, tags, and bags

Table Numbers

I used my Cricut to cut out numbers for sizes and attached one to each pair of flip flops using jute

These Out of Town Boxes were given to hotel guests as they checked in for the weekend. They had pretzels, candies, water, and some information on the area.

This schedule of events informed guests of what was going on that weekend, if they were interested in joining us.

So that's a glance into my DIY Scrappy wedding. Was it a ton of work? Yes. Like packing my suitcase the night before we left for Santa Barbara and gluing candy buffet tags to ribbon. Did I save myself any money? Probably not as much as you would think. But I do feel like I was able to do A LOT more than I would have had I purchased everything. Would I do it again? Absolutely. There's nothing like looking around on your wedding day, surrounded by all of the people you love most in life and realizing all of your (and your Mom's and your friend's) work had paid off.

Now I'm off to bake some cookies for my mom because I was just reminded how much I put her through...

=)

XOXO,
